In Louisville a woman named Mrs. Gertrude Wheeler, an alleged fortune teller, was fined 10 dollars and ordered to pay costs after admitting she had no license to practice fortune telling. She predicted a journey for a tall woman and claimed to identify a city Heewoman, leading to her citation by police.
Rev. Clarence Erickson and his son in law Rev Russell Killman will lead a Wednesday 7:30 p.m. evangelistic and missionary rally at First Baptist Church. A film titled Formosa will be shown and Killman will sing vocal and trumpet solos sharing his Formosa trip. The event promotes a capacity crowd as church officials prepare.
Six people died across Iowa in weekend accidents. A motorcycle collided with a plane on landing at Nevada Airport, killing Myrus Gibbs 17 Ames and injuring pilot Gene Millsap 31 and passenger Richard Pierce. Other fatalities occurred on farms and roads, including Leroy Meyer 13 at a Newton-area farm, Donald Reith 25 near Tama, Richard Ranch 16 near Keokuk, Pierce Sinnott 48 near Collins, and Amer Willis 82 in Des Moines River drowning. Blood donations were requested for Mrs Crandell amid a devastating head-on collision aftermath near Nevada.

Vernon D. Falkens was charged with intoxication and LaVerne Auler faces an operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated charge after a Saturday night arrest in Sioux Falls South Dakota.
Washington fire crews were dispatched to 1103 North Sud Avenue this afternoon to extinguish a grass fire sparked by burning trash in a nearby incinerator. The blaze threatened surrounding dry grass before firefighters controlled it.
Mrs Cletus Kaska travels back to Washington after a California summer with her Navy husband. En route she visits Denver with the Walt Kaska and Nick Pohlit families, Ft Collins with the Patterson and Hicks families, and Hancock with the Russell Griggs family.

Crawfordsville linemen worked to restore service after a car struck a pole on the town’s south edge disrupting lines to Crawfordsville Olds Winfield Wayland and five rural lines. Another pole west of town was knocked down delaying repairs as Clarence Hering and his son Virgil aided by Frank Haga worked to fix the outages.
Rural teachers of Washington county met in the court house to plan the opening of schools. County Superintendent Lester Krabill says most schools will open August 31 with a few starting tomorrow. J L Daives of Iowa State University spoke on education and fall program details.
Howard L. Wittrig of Washington has been appointed office manager of the Washington county IMA office. The appointment was effective August 21, and follows the PMA committee’s reorganization to assign daily operations to the office manager while the county committee retains policy control. The change promotes efficiency seen in other states as the standard PMA structure.
James B. Morrison 28, vice president of Valley Bank & Trust Co and noted painter, died Sunday in Des Moines. A former Washington resident, he left with his parents Mr and Mrs Frederick M Morrison as a boy, the family moving to Washington around 1925 and living there for about a decade. His mother survives.
Panmunjom Korea United Press reports 150 freed Americans came home silent and subdued saying they would not discuss prison conditions until others are released. They plan to sail Tuesday aboard the Gen John Pope to the United States as 400 captives were handed over and 2402 prisoners received.
Mrs Delmar Romine reports a Siamese cantaloupe discovered on her father Charles Stafford's Conesville melon farm. Stafford recently recovered from a heat stroke suffered about three weeks ago and is doing well. The melon was found while Romine helped on the melon farm.
About 139 members of the Journal Three-Quarter Century club gathered at the Washington Country Club for a noon Saturday dinner. Rev. Earl Longfellow spoke praising members’ service and urging continued work beyond age 73. Melvin P. Lewis was named king for traveling far. Mrs. A. L. Young was oldest attendee and received the queen’s corsage. The 20th annual meeting also honored August birthdays and introduced new members while couples were recognized for long marriages.

A semi-trailer crashed into a Havana residence on Route 78 killing Den Killing's victims, the parents of five. Coroner Hurley said the truck driver may have dozed or lost control and was uninjured. Four children upstairs escaped without injury.
