Roselyn Wenman an electronics technician at the University of Iowa Physics Department is one of four workers assembling the electronic circuits for the radio and plasma wave detectors built there for the Voyager I and II spacecraft. The pair are set for launches from Cape Canaveral in August and September, beginning a 12 year voyage past Jupiter and Saturn. Rose notes the work is challenging and rewarding, blending hands on skill with NASA certification. Her crew’s instruments are tiny, gold plated on the outside but rich with silver circuitry inside, designed to gather radio wave data from distant worlds.

Sunday marks the first time since modern Iowa history that beer shelves won t be required to carry warning signs. Gov. Robert D. Ray signed the July 13 law making carry out beer sales legal Sundays noon to 10 p.m. About 1,200 permits were processed with more expected. The Beer and Liquor Control Department rushed permits to retailers and warned stores without permits not to sell beer.
