Ministers in Tribute to Rev W R Stryker
Funeral services for Rev. W. R. Stryker were held at the Methodist church where he served for years as a member and Sunday school superintendent. The large service featured a men’s class of 32 attendees, a women’s group, organist Ruth Hedges, songs by a quartet, and memorial talks by church leaders. Washington City Council Advances Street Light Upgrade
At a special session the council approved buying metal poles for the lighting system replacement on Washington streets. Some old iron poles are unusable on paved streets and new poles costing about 150 dollars will be installed. New lights already operate on East Washington Street South Iowa Avenue and Clara Barton Street. The council also authorized land purchase to extend West Fifth Street to a northwest road bypassing railway crossings. Mayor Applegate and City Clerk Fulton attended the Iowa League of Municipalities convention in Burlington with several officials attending.
