A federal grand jury charged Chas. Pfizer & Co and American Cyanamid with Lederle Labs and Wilbur G. Malcolm, and Bristol-Myers with Frederic N. Schwartz, accusing them of conspiring to restrain trade and monopolize sales of broad spectrum antibiotics aureomycin tetramycin and tetracyclin. Two other firms Olin Mathieson and Upjohn named as co conspirators. The drugs, costing hundreds of millions yearly, are used to treat diverse infections.

Carnival worker shooter admits fatal shooting in self defense claim
Cedar Rapids police say Austin, a carnival worker from Atlanta, confessed to shooting Woodrow Wilson Floyes in a restaurant argument over baseball and running speeds. Floyes, 30, of Mobile, Alabama, was shot after a knife threat. Austin fled but was caught after a 100 mph chase. John Edwards, 33, of San Antonio, Texas, was arrested at the scene. Austin and Edwards face intoxication and murder suspicion charges.
