Pitcher Fred Kimmel earned the win, drove in three runs, and held the Vets scoreless for five innings as Freshwaters built a big early lead. The Cubs beat the Gripers 10-5 in a slow-paced finale with a five-run second inning and late scoring yet the Gripers could not close the gap.
