Rainfall totals and county history meeting in Washington

Washington area received 0.62 inches of rain overnight per the official observer, with lighter totals nearby and no accompanying wind. Friends of the Dublin Store will meet Thursday at 7 30 p.m. at the store west of Washington for an open house and business meeting on county history and preservation.

Farm Bureau leaders embark two week Japan tour

Dean Kleckner Iowa Farm Bureau president plans a two week tour of Japanese agricultural facilities with his wife. He is joined by Allan Grant American Farm Bureau president and Cecil Miller Arizona Farm Bureau president along with ten other agricultural officials. They will meet Japanese meat importers to discuss the meat import situation with other delegation members from National Farmers Union National Grange National Council of Farmers Cooperatives and American Agricultural Editors Association.

Severe storms lash eastern Iowa with tornadoes and floods

A line of severe weather drenched eastern Iowa with tornado touchdowns and torrential rain. In Iowa City area a twister damaged Moore Business Farms plant and the plant’s east wall while windows shattered and a semi truck overturned. Johnson and Muscatine counties reported farm and church damage, with Wilton’s Westside Assembly of God Church heavily hit and damages estimated at upwards of 100000 dollars. Flood warnings persisted as rainfall totals reached up to seven inches in Story County and six inches in Marshall and Benton counties.

Yeggy Named to Washington County FmHA Committee

Doris Yeggy of Riverside has been appointed by State Director Robert Pim to serve on the Washington County FmHA Committee. She and husband farm 825 acres with a hog confinement operation and are active in Holy Trinity Church of Richmond. The three member panel reviews applications and eligibility, with terms lasting three years and one retiree each year, replacing Marion L. Timmins whose term expired June 30.
