United States Proposes Plan for Suez Canal Internationalization

At the Suez conference in London the United States Britain and France outline a four point plan to internationalize the canal. An international board under treaty and UN association would run the canal with Egyptian representation and no domination by any single power. The plan also guarantees Egypt a fair return and compensation to former stockholders with disputes to arbitration.

Parents Will Aid In Survey On Education

The University of Iowa will study why children study or not in Ottumwa Oskaloosa West Liberty Keota and Buck Creek. About 3000 children and 6000 parents will participate in a survey by the Child Welfare Research Station to assess home atmosphere motivation and parental attitudes on school effort. Fourth to sixth graders will take two tests, followed by parent questionnaires.

Stevenson backs civil rights plank in Democratic platform

Adlai E. Stevenson said he would have preferred a specific endorsement of the Supreme Court desegregation ruling but hailed the platform’s civil rights plank as a firm basis to move ahead.
