Fred White emerged as likely governor nominee while Rousseau exits. Paris dispatch says Le Journal People warns of dire reprisals after labor outrages with hostages named.
In Rennes M Labori was wounded by a gunman while awaiting trial and the court adjournment request was filed. Dreyfus wrote two letters expressing shock and support as Labori recovers. authorities hope for a two day adjournment and Labori’s return next Monday. Separately in Paris an anti Semite clash on Faubourg St Denis ended with three wounded after shots fired. an alleged anarchist was arrested.
In East St Louis the St Patrick’s parish conflict may end within two weeks with a parishioner victory and a new Irish priest to serve. Mgr Martinelli allegedly commanded Bishop Janssen to concede, citing a threat to church interests and excess of authority due to excommunication of parishioners. Janssen declines comment on the report.
In Paris on August 16 M Guerin displayed an anti-Semitic tri color flag at the anti-Semite headquarters and vowed to resist. M Waldeck-Rousseau opts for imprisonment or arrest rather than sacrifice lives. Friends move to rescue Guerin as negotiations continue with deputies Lasces and Stevens urging surrender.
A drunken mob at a charivari party in Calumet Michigan broke into a newly wedded couple’s home and attacked Officer Steve Davey. A revolver was fired at the officer but he was not struck. Several assailants are jailed.
Omaha reports Senator M L Hayward fell from a platform at the Modern Woodmen picnic in Brownville Neb yesterday forenoon. He lay unconscious for hours as doctors treated him. condition is very precarious though hope remains.
Leonard Anderson a traveling salesman from Harlan Iowa escaped two con men identified as Eddie Schultz and Joe Simmons who used a Studebaker works guise to gain trust and a loan offer. Detectives Flaherty and Nagle arrested the pair at the Central station.

Delegates pack auditorium and Tabernacle while candidates jockey over nomination and platform with radical and conservative wings at odds.
Governor William J. Stone discussed a New Yorker dispatch about Richard Croker praising William Jennings Bryan. He warned Tammany would back Bryan, easing east opposition at the convention, if Croker’s views were genuine.
