Great Falls dispatch reports Mrs William Glass wife of a store owner in St Paul area assaulted three clerks union representatives with a horsewhip near a First Avenue shop. Union president later swore to a complaint in Justice Saffords court charging Mrs Glass with assault. The store had been labeled unfair by the clerks for flouting a 6 oclock rule as picketers urged the public not to patronize the shop.

Chicago reports that a civil action may be filed by George H. Phillips com ye civil against George S Hinman of Champaign Ill over a May coin deal. Hinman claimed underpayment and requested an accounting for 225000 bushels of corn in a blind pool. He was settled at 48 and a half cents per bushel, a cent too much for all, totaling about 5050.25 dollars.
In Kenosha Wisconsin on August 14 John Werner was buried as the town learns the long hidden story. His mother Mrs Peter Werner mourned sixteen years for a missing son who vanished in 1887. A Newfoundland dog found the drowned youth on the lake shore near Twenty-ninth street, ending a town saga of sorrow and unanswered questions.
Springfield Ills Aug 14 The first battalion of the First regiment scored best marks at the rifle range during encampment. The second battalion practiced Saturday and the third is there today. A regimental band concert and a reception by Governor and Mrs Yates conclude the day.
In Chicago on August 14 the Cadillac and Invader clashed at the start of the third Can ada cup race. The judges ruled the Cadillac at fault. the Invader continued solo. After review with all parties, the decision stood, giving the Invader two wins in three.
J S McCullough auditor of public accounts is confined to his Springfield Illinois apartment with a badly sprained ankle. The accident happened in Chicago at the Palmer House where he slipped and fell while leaving the hotel. He returned home and remains confined with little improvement.
In Seamon Racine Wisconsin delegates from Minnesota Missouri Wisconsin and Illinois gather for the thirteenth annual grand lodge convention of the Illinois jurisdiction of the Sons of St. George. About eighty five delegates attend with many visiting Britons.
Representatives of 115 large independent cracker factories will convene in St. Louis in the last week of September to form an association modeled on wholesale grocers. Their aim is to combat the National Biscuit company, dubbed the cracker trust, nationwide.
