A massive fire destroyed powder, machinery, and buildings at the Old Hickory Powder plant at Jacksonville, tearing through a forty acre tract. Valued at about 28 million dollars at wartime prices and over 2 million at present, the loss is described as the greatest government wartime figure to date.
