Pigweeds a Hazard for Iowa Pigs Says ISU Vet
Iowa State University extension veterinarian John Berthelsen warns pigweeds can cause serious losses to hog producers. In Denison this summer 70 pigs died after ingesting pigweed. Earlier 40 pigs died in Jefferson. Autops and diagnostic labs detect cases, but many go unreported. Pigweed poisoning affects kidney function with exposure after weaning or purchasing feeder pigs.
