Nixon blasts Johnson and backs stronger Vietnam stance in Iowa
Former Vice President Nixon told reporters at Cedar Rapids airport that Johnson hit the wrong target amid Vietnam policy disputes and urged harsher air and sea strikes against North Vietnam. He warned Southeast Asia could fall to communism if the U S weakens. Nixon rejected nuclear use or a ground invasion and pressed a two pronged approach for underdeveloped Asian nations. The party then moved to West Branch for Hoover ceremonies with Eisenhower and Hoover heirs joining a public welcome of about 2,000.

Washington Manufacturing Co plans a 32,000 square foot new plant on a 10 acre site west of the Advance Ross plant. Groundbreaking tomorrow at 12 30 pm will feature President Robert K Goodwin of Des Moines. The project aims to double company volume in five years and is expected complete by January 1 1966.

Donations set new county cancer fund record high
Washington County residents raised gifts to the Cancer Fund beyond any prior year. Rev. Arthur Peters of West Chester, crusade chairman, received word from the Iowa Cancer Society at Mason City noting the county exceeded its quota and Memorial Fund gifts pushed totals to a new record. Tragedy in Arkansas Titan II silo disaster claims 53 lives
Rescue crews removed 53 bodies from a Titan II missile silo after a catastrophic explosion and fire that trapped a construction crew in a nine level, 170 foot deep site near Searcy Arkansas. Two workers escaped as authorities launched an immediate investigation led by SAC and Air Force officials.

Funeral services for Dr Clyde A Boice M D will be held Wednesday at 2 p m at the Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church with Rev Vernon Elgin in charge Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery Rotary members will attend in a group meeting at the church by 1 45 p m Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and friends may call there until 10 30 a m Wednesday Dr Boice 88 died Monday August 9 1965 at Washington County Hospital following an illness of only a few hours He was born April 6 1877 at Ainsworth son of Dr James Cooper and Mary Ellen Crawford Boice He graduated from Washington High School in 1894 and from Washington Academy in 1896 He was a 1900 graduate of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Chicago He was married to Lorena Belle Latta March 25 1902 and had been a physician for 65 years He was a member of the Marion Avenue United Presbyterian Church and Rotary Club Dr Boice received the Rotary Club s Community Service award in 1964 He helped organize the Washington County Hospital opened in 1912 and was active in forming the Washington Health Unit in 1924 and the Washington County Maternal Care Unit in 1932 He served as editor of the Iowa State Medical Journal from 1911 to 1913 and was a member of county state and national medical associations He was on the staff of the Washington County Hospital Survivors are his wife two sons Dr William Boice of Chicago and Dr Clyde L Boice of Los Altos Calif two daughters Mrs Myrtle Anderson of Chicago and Mrs Sevilla Hopp of Santa Barbara Calif nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren Also surviving is a brother Harry Boice of Rock Springs Wyo

Riverside Mayor Resigns From Riverside Office
Riverside The Riverside Town Council announced the resignation of Mayor Roger Schloss effective August 31 1965. Schloss appointed after Harry Gould’s 1964 resignation leaves Riverside for business reasons and will relocate to Des Moines. He served one term as mayor and had been on the town council since 1963.
