Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York traveled to Chicago to attend the funeral of George F. Brennan, Democratic leader. He did not accompany Brennan’s funeral party to Des Plaines and returned to his train after the church services, arriving in Chicago at 12 40 p m aboard a special car attached to the Twentieth Century Limited. A group of Brennan associates joined Smith on the governor’s car at Englewood station as the event drew a modest crowd at LaSalle Street Station.

Civil War veteran Nimrod L. Long dies at 85
Nimrod L. Long, 85, died at 11:30 this morning at his East Main street home after a two year illness. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 pm at L. A. Jones funeral home conducted by Dr. W W Bowers. Interment in Crawfordsville cemetery. Long was born Feb 28 1848 in West Virginia and lived in the area most of his life. Surviving children listed include Mrs. Thomas J. Harvey and several others. two daughters preceded him. He served in Company I Thirteenth Iowa infantry 1864 65 and was active in I G White post G A R. He belonged to the Methodist church and Crawfordsville congregation then attended Washington church when possible.
