Cedar Rapids Aug 10 Henry Kelly a wealthy farmer near Falke suffered a stroke and fell into the river while fishing his body not recovered for hours George Ashlocka of Center Point died in a runaway accident two separate rural tragedies reported from nearby areas involving local farmers and a river incident with injuries.
American League games featured Washington and Boston shows with runs and errors tallied. Rochester, N Y Aug 10 Anna Schumacher 17 found buried in Holy Sepulcher cemetery. Autopsy confirms choking and beating with brutal injuries. A broken spade at the scene and a suspicious man seen nearby offer clues, but identity remains unknown.
Antonio Spizzirri and his wife Anna locked in a bedroom and killed each other in a darkened parlor. Anna was shot and stabbed. she died before police arrived. Antonio was also shot and likely to die. A revolver and a knife were found near the sofa and a second revolver beside Antonio. He tore a nearby Italian letter as police entered. The motive is believed jealousy.
Chicago August 10 diplomatic negotiations mark progress in the street railway dispute. No definite peace proposal was accepted, but conferences justify that a settlement without a strike or arbitration is near.
Spokane Aug. 10 The National Irrigation congress heard E. J. Watson urge government control of rivers for navigation and water power. Mayor Spratt accused private capital of hindering government work. a Taft telegram expressed regret and sympathy.
Aug 10 Des Moines reports ongoing action against mills shipping bleached flour into Iowa. After a large seizure at Mitchellville state home for girls, Deputy Marshal Bidwell seized 288 sacks at Ottumwa from Shawnee mills Topeka for W. E. Jones Co. Authorities vow to press the case against millers.
Charles City Iowa August 10 The case against Lafe Phillips charged with murder was dismissed as the state failed to show Boyer the missing man was slain A letter purporting to come from Hoyer was shown claiming he was at Spring Valley working for Nichols Telephone with Nichols indicated Hoyer was not there and cannot read or write
Delegates and visitors at the fifty fifth annual International Typographical Union convention rode a special train to Waterworks hill for an outing. Extreme heat caused half a dozen prostrations among attendees, none serious. Minneapolis leads Atlanta and Salt Lake as next meeting site.
