Immense crowds fill Chicago as the Nights Templar Gar Clave parade unfolds, described as one of the city’s most spectacular. More than 120000 visitors arrive, with Washington commandery No. 1 of Hartford leading a visitor influx to the La Salle hotel.
The parade is estimated to include 30 000 Knights Templars with about 230 000 spectators along the route excluding window crowds. The time for the parade to pass a single point is estimated at five hours. Sir Holman G Purinton, past grand commander of Illinois, serves as marshal.
Chicago welcomes Knights Templar for the thirty first biennial conclave drawing an estimated 100000 to 500000 attendees. An English deputation led by the Earl of Boston reviews the grand parade and attends openings and receptions at Music hall and the Congress hotel while city streets glow with arches and banners.
Visiting Knights Templar will be greeted with a Chinese welcome in Chinatown. The Chinese Masonic HQ at 319 Clark Street is decorated and members will offer tea and Chinese edibles. The joss house connected to the temple will restrict access and Frank May, the "mayor of China town," will greet guests continuously.

Mayor Gaynor of New York City was fatally wounded on the Kaiser Wilhelm Der Roeste as he prepared to sail for Europe. An arrest was made, with the suspect identified as Jules James Gallagher of New York. Gaynor, born in Oneida County in 1851, was a prominent Democrat known for anti corruption efforts.

Anderson Indiana August 9 The Abernathy family reunion at Mounds Park drew over 100 members spanning four generations in attendance.
Benjamin Abernathy aged 84 was the oldest attendee and Byron Abernathy six months old the youngest at the gathering.
A Conroe boiler explosion at a shingle mill killed D Durban the mill owner Voss Rayburn and three unnamed Black workers. One Black man and one Black woman were fatally injured as the boiler tore through the house where they lived.

Harry G. Davis, a farmer in Clarkshill Indiana, was fatally injured when a Knights Templar special train struck his wagon, killing his horses as it moved toward Chicago. The impact damaged the locomotive cylinder head and delayed the train for hours. no Knights were harmed.

Mrs. Thomas Johnsson, 40, of Highland, died in St. Margaret's hospital Hammond after fleeing a house fire triggered by a gasoline stove while trying to reach her husband in a nearby field.
Elmer Sheppard aged 18 died at his parents home in Crawfordsville Indiana after overworking to gain admission to a circus on circus day. He died from illness caused by the effort. The death is reported from Crawfordsville with details of his age and parental home.
