Cramer Makes Test Flight to Iceland for North Atlantic Route

Parker Cramer, American flier, launched a survey flight from Greenland to Iceland en route to Copenhagen. He aims to map a commercial North Atlantic air link with safety precautions, flying over 500 miles of remote waters toward the Faroe Islands and continuing toward Norway.

Flight of Cranmer and Pacquetia Survey Flight Init

Lutherans to Install Pastor at Trinity Church Washington

Rev. Theodore Meibohm of Buffalo New York will be installed as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Washington. Rev. Robert Lee Grote of Lockridge Iowa will lead the installation and Rev. E Hempel of Conroy Iowa will preach the morning sermon with Rev F J Oetjen of Oskaloosa delivering the afternoon sermon at the Y. The congregation has held services in Washington since last fall with Rev. Grote in charge and organized last January. Plans for a permanent church home are under arrangement but not yet announced.

Frink Seeks National Legion Convention Attendance

Russel Frink commander of Leon Beatty post American Legion aims to attend the national convention in Detroit Michigan starting September 21. He was elected Iowa delegate at the state convention in Davenport. Wilson Reed of Fairfield named delegate, noted for his Washington connections.

Prisoners to Clean Courtroom Ceiling and Walls

Yarl Simpson and workmen erect scaffolding in the county courthouse to be used for cleaning the upper walls and ceiling. The work will be performed by prisoners from the county jail under current plans following recent exterior painting of the jail and jail garage.

Senator Brookhart Schedules Daily Speeches in August

Senator Smith W Brookhart plans nearly daily August speaking engagements with additional dates possible. He is set to speak this evening in Chariton Lucas county and yesterday in Kellerton Rinegold county. He spoke last Tuesday in Oskaloosa for emancipation day. He will also attend the Brookhart family reunion at Wyaconda Missouri tomorrow.

Police seize man linked to four-state gang escape

In St Joseph Michigan a wounded man identified as Gus Winkler a gang member tied to Fur Burke was taken under police guard in hospital and later confirmed by fingerprints. A companion John Moran also held. Winkler faces first degree robbery and murder charges in several cities with Chicago and police seeking ties to multiple bank robberies across Wisconsin Indiana and Michigan. Burke gang history linked to Piqua and other crimes as authorities pursue connections. A county fair and local events follow in Red Oak Albia Dutch Creek Salem.

Other Grains Affected by Wheat Surge

Wheat prices rose on the Chicago board of trade as trader Fred Uhlmann exited a bearish position, lifting May wheat to 56 to 57 cents next year. Wheat closed 50 1-4 to 50 3-8 cents, up 25-9 cents from Thursday’s bottom, with Canadian and European crop prospects influencing gains. Winnipeg prices also jumped on the Winnipeg grain exchange in the day’s big rise.

Humston habeas hearing scheduled in Iowa City

Habeas corpus proceedings in the Humston case from Washington are set for Monday before Judge Harold Evans in the district court at Iowa City. Mrs Humston seeks possession of two children living at the Fred Werner and Clay Humston homes. The divorce decree was not modified by Judge J G Patterson.
