A morning fire at Jas Cherry’s Heights house was detected by Henry Rathmell who alerted John Shields’ yard. Firefighters arrived after a delay due to misdirection but controlled the blaze, saving the household goods. The Chest Cherry plans to rebuild in days and the property is insured by Keokuk Insurance Company. Washington Illuminating Co discusses using railroad water for boilers and relates to city water works’ boiler needs.
The Central Station report for August 6 1895 notes above normal temperatures and deficient rainfall aiding harvest of small grain and threshing. Residents travel to and from Washington Burlington and Lake Okoboji. Church events and local business notices accompany a social tea and a box supper planned by Pleasant Plain WMS members.

An old medicine pitch touts Veno’s Electric Fluid as a cure for brain and heart trouble spinal issues and nervous prostration. Used with Veno’s Curative Syrup it claims to revive blood brain and vitality and targets the weak pale and emaciated at a price of three dollars and six cents.
Made up in suppositories to be used at home for the positive cure of leucorrhoea or whites prolapsus inflammation of the womb ovarian troubles bearing down pains and menstrual difficulties. Sold with full instructions for a home cure price two.
An advertisement touts a healing ointment for burns sores and ulcers as an unmatched soothing remedy. It emphasizes rapid relief and enduring comfort for skin ailments.
An old advertisement claims Veno's Worm Killer safely removes stomach worms in children. It boasts reducing gnashing teeth nose picking fretful crying and coated tongue while toning the stomach and being pleasant to take.
Advertises a positive cure for gonorrhoea in Wien that stops discharge in a few days. Claims it does not cause stricture and promotes rapid symptom relief.
