A blaze gutted the Ballard Sales Barn near Red Oak with all stock loss. Fireman Wayne Campbell was overcome by heat while forcing a hinge. Several others sustained minor burns. no hospitalizations. The fire cut a telephone line and knocked out about 175 phones as power was interrupted. Fire chief Neil Frank could not yet determine a cause and put the barn as total loss.
