A brief but powerful storm struck St Louis on Aug 6 causing one death likely fatally injuring another and injuring seven others at the World’s Fair grounds. Damage to buildings and property totaled about 10000 with shattered windows and fallen signs across the city.
Reports from Logan, Woodbine, Mason City and Clear Lake describe the season’s heaviest rain and hail. Willow Creek flooded Mason City driving out residents, with drownings narrowly avoided. Railways including the Milwaukee and Iowa Central suffered washouts and a minor wreck near Cameron. Walnut Creek overflowed Atlantic, cattle drowned, and a wide hail strip south of Mason City devastated crops.
At Empire American Nitro Glycerine magazine near Bluffton Indiana Edward Radabaugh dropped a can causing 2000 quarts of nitroglycerine to explode. Three men William Toward Edward Radabaugh and William Steff were killed. The blast tore a 100 by 150 foot crater. All victims were married.
An explosion at Tuscaloosa leveled the local electric light plant in Birmingham area dispatches report two men dead and many nearby businesses damaged.
Warsaw and Winona will host the next year encampment after the Warsaw city council war administration accepts the invitation. The Indiana Grand Army of the Republic approves the arrangement for the event to be staged in Warsaw.
11 year old Willie Nichols of Minnesota has been captured at Britt Iowa on a theft charge. Police say he has been a thief since he could walk and he is wanted in several Minnesota locations.
Springfield reports Governor Yates met with close political allies at the executive mansion from morning until near midnight. He gave no direct answer when asked about renomination, saying the talks were political in nature and covered state conditions. About 100 visitors since his return from abroad brought updates on conditions.
Andrew Carnegie declares a donation of 2.5 million in United States Steel Corporation bonds to Dunfermline Scotland his birthplace. The gift funds renovation of the Tittencrieff estate including the tower where Malcolm Canmore wed Princess Margaret kept as a pleasure ground.
Bert Stark told of going to Sylvan lake in a boat with Bara Dudley and William Rollson. Dudley allegedly forced Stark to surrender $4.50 and Rollson did nothing. Dudley is arrested on robbery charges and Rollson as an accomplice.
In New York on August 6 Reverend George CO Houghton of the Church of the Transfiguration escaped injury after a runaway cab. Lieutenant G. BR Fortisque of the Fourth U S Cavalry sprang from the curb and grabbed the horse, bringing it to a halt.
Judge Dixon issues an injunction against the local International Bricklayers' union restraining enforcement of a rule limiting one contractor per firm on a job and prohibiting fines for violations.
Seven Italian workmen were killed five miles north of here in a Great Western railway wreck when a freight train broke in two and ran back toward a gravel train.

East Buffalo New York August 5 pooled figures show cattle receipts around 26 000 with varied bids for steers cows and calves and light packing. Sheep lambs and native stock also traded while grain markets show wheat and corn futures movement alongside dairy and stock prices.
The city council adopted but mayor Robb vetoed a proposed ordinance banning church bell ringing. Residents failed to override the veto by one vote, allowing bells to toll again as in the past.

Four people were seriously wounded and eleven shots fired by a crazed man seeking blood in Minneapolis. George B. Young a St. Paul lawyer reportedly received a fee of 100000 for his role in the merger fight. Judge Young served as special counsel to Northern Securities Company.
Standish Mich Aug 6 Coal of fair quality found at 162 feet depth on the farm of Myron Stevens in a local report noting mineral discovery and property details.

Milwaukee split results with Toledo 7 and 15 runs in two games. Kansas City dominated Columbus 8 to 1. Additional western results included Rain and varied scores across multiple cities.
Stockholders approve the consolidation of First National and Coal and Iron National banks at Cleveland. A baby boy was born in a Maxwell Street patrol wagon en route to Chicago’s county hospital. Alden descendants gather in Duxbury for annual reunion, and 700 reported drowned in Che Foo floods. Samuel Goldstein faces $40,000 robbery charge. Wage dispute on the Rt Island Railway settled.
Washington notes the president appoints Lieutenant General Young to command the army from Aug 8 following General Miles retirement until Aug 15 when the general staff law takes effect and the office of commanding general is dispensed with.
A rain storm lasting about half an hour hit Ottumwa Iowa, tearing off skylights and roofs of several business blocks, stopping streetcar service and disabling all outside telephone lines while telegraph wires were crippled.

A lightning caused blaze in Louisville destroys the Bourbon stock yards and two adjoining structures. about 450 sheep perished. Loss estimated at $250000 with half covered by insurance. In Arkansas City Kansas Newt Farris drunk attacks wife with a chair and she shoots him through the heart.
Frances C. Newell Carrie Tain Hoyt Mia Ed ward Bain and George Yule present the city of Kenosha Wisconsin with a splendid hospital equipped for use on August 6.
Governor Mickey announces W. J. Bryan among sixty two Nebraska delegates named to attend the National Farmers' Congress at Na oa acta son.
In Urbana two weeks before the state convention, Bryan assailed Cleveland at a county Democratic gathering. He denounced leaders who mislead voters while insisting the party must honor the people’s suffrage and resist Wall Street influence. Excerpts from the program also praised other speakers, including Zimmerman of Springfield and Mayor Johnson of Cleveland.
Joseph Oliver, over 80, longtime Traverse City resident, hanged himself with a handkerchief tied to a bed post in the home of his adopted daughter Mrs James Shane. He had argued with a guest staying at the house the previous night and was described as short of temper and possibly not of sound mind.
