Iowa corn is in a vulnerable state amid hot dry weather and low soil moisture. The weekly bulletin notes 20 percent tassel and 6 percent silk as of Saturday, with late acreage slowed to silage, and immediate moisture relief needed to avert serious damage.
Iowa's July 1 corn stocks total 188.236 million bushels, up 87.194 million from a year earlier. Farmers held 183.379 million bushels with 4.8 million in terminals, mills, and elevators. since April 1 disappearance reached 129.902 million, vs 97.156 million last year.
A truck carrying 18 Black laborers and others collided with a gasoline truck near Waxahachie Texas at 6 15 A M. The crash overturned and burst into flames trapping victims. Four survived and were hospitalized three seriously injured. Police cite panic and flee from flames as cause of high death toll.
