Rev Thorne warned at M E church that petitions for saloons are being circulated in the county. He argued Wash/ington County, seen as prohibition stronghold with low crime, should not sign to open “a way” for youths to ruin. He doubted enough names could be gathered.

Obituary for Harriet Lease of South Washington
Harriet Lease, aged near eighty and longtime Burlington area resident, died at her daughter’s home after six weeks illness. Born in Maryland, she moved from farming in the county since 1848 and was a veteran Methodist, survived by five children and two brothers. funeral set for Wednesday at 10 from the Stratton home.

Religious meeting held at county jail by Presbyterian youths
Yesterday afternoon at 3 o clock a religious meeting was held in the county jail under the Presbyterian Young People's Society. Mrs John McCall led the meeting with singing by Aaron Hise about twenty attended and were welcomed by the prisoners. The next meeting will be supervised by the young people of the Second U P Church. The meetings should be encouraged.

David Dawson of Marion township owns a cow that recently birthed three calves. The calves are healthy and the farm expects good returns. Dawson will not sell the cow for a high price as farmers and shippers congratulate him.

Man jailed for unpaid whiskey fine in Riverside area
Roy Paine of Riverside was fined $50 in Justice Rogers' court for selling whiskey illegally and given sixty days to pay. With no payment, a mittimus was issued on Saturday and he remains jailed in the county jail. Moral: bootlegging fines must be paid.

Iowa Falls special reports Frank Pearson the young man who attacked his parents last Monday morning and then attempted suicide has been declared insane by county commissioners. He is transferred to the Independence asylum to remain for an uncertain length of time.
