Pushbutton information devices draw crowds at New York fair
At the New York World's Fair the American Economic Foundation operates a pushbutton machine in the Hall of Free Enterprise revealing simple, printed answers to about 120 business and economics questions. The device, popular with about 250,000 visitors in 45 days, explains money, communism, gold standard, and private capitalism in plain terms. A second device, by Cue Ventures, tests robot information centers in midtown hotel lobbies offering local theater, travel, and venue details via pocket slips.

Sunflower diet gains traction in American food hopes
UPI reports Jesuit biologist Rev. Robert Owens-Howard says the sunflower, once rejected, could become a major American diet staple. He notes seeds offer high protein and vitamins, oil for cooking, flour from ground seeds, and versatile stalks. With over 100 varieties, harvest and equipment pose challenges, but smaller varieties and new machinery could unlock vast global use.

Wheat as livestock feed gains appeal with lower wheat loan rate
Iowa State University economist Gene Futrell says the 1964 national loan rate for wheat at 1.30 makes wheat more competitive with corn oats barley and sorghum for livestock feed. He forecasts wheat use in 1964 65 feeding year rising to about 60 million bushels but still a small share of total feed. Futrell notes feeding value is usually higher than corn for beef cattle hogs and poultry and near equal in dairy rations. Some Colorado feed lots consider substituting up to one third of corn with wheat if price relationships persist, and Futrell urges watching market trends and consulting livestock specialists before major changes.
