In Memphis Tennessee Willie Hopkins and his family fled to their bathtub to stay dry as torrential rain flooded their home. Water backed up inside the house leaving the tub as the only dry refuge.

The amendment would have set federal control of submerged lands seaward of the three mile limit and create federal leasing for continental shelf oil resources. Sixty three former prisoners of war depart Tokyo aboard Freedom Airlift planes for the United States. The first plane arrived California on Wednesday carrying 35 of 149 freed captives. 51 remain in Japan. The second plane, with 41 released sick and wounded plus crew, departed at 7:41 pm and aims for Honolulu in about 14 hours.
Mr and Mrs Menford Gentzler of Columbus Junction report their son Burdette Gentzler was wounded in action in Korea on Friday April 24 He is hospitalized with flesh wounds in both legs Gentzler entered the service in November 1951 and has served eleven months in the Field Artillery in Korea
