Washington High Pupils Sweep State Music Contest Honors
Washington high school pupils won nine Division I ratings and six Division II ratings in the state music contest for small groups and solos. Directed by Melvin Hill and Robert Ferrell, the ensembles and soloists delivered a strong showing led by the clarinet trio of John Winga Jr Gus Mast and Eddy Winga earning a one plus V rating as outstanding ensemble. Guardsmen Return From Flood Duty At Port Louisa
Washington National Guardsmen return home after a week protecting flood weakened Mississippi levees at Port Louisa. Local units were relieved by Fairfield guardsmen as crests held but levees remain spongy and at risk of another break.

Nineteen Pay Fines In Local Police Court
Nineteen fines were levied in city police court during April. Most were for traffic violations. Norman Dean Jarvis paid 15 dollars plus costs for failing to stop at a stop sign, with a possible license suspension due to a third offense. Seventeen-Year-Old Burned In Shed Torch Blast
David Mineart 16, son of Mr and Mrs H W Mineart of Sandyhook near Washington, suffered severe burns to arms and head on Saturday afternoon when an acetylene torch ignited blasting powder stored in a nearby shed. He was treated in Washington. He is a Brighton High School sophomore.

Born January 26 1867 she taught rural schools and served as enrolling clerk in the state legislature for two terms. Active in the WRC she supervised veterans graves registration and Memorial day decorations. Survived by a brother Julius of Long Beach California and many nieces and nephews. Eight brothers James Lon Elmer Ralph Charles Murray Will Harvey preceded her in death.
