Hattie Ross Dies Early This Morning
Hattie Ross aged 76 of West Chester died early this morning after a long battle with arthritis. Funeral services are set for Friday at 2 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery. Harriet Ruth Ross was born June 13 1875 in Scott County Iowa to Francis A and Mary Ann Parker Ross. She attended Washington County schools and belonged to the Methodist Church. Survivors include sister Mary E. Conger of Washington and brother Robert A. Ross of Washington along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

George Hoover 92 Dies at Brighton
George Frank Hoover, 92, died at his son Charles Hoover's Brighton home after a period of ill health. Born November 21, 1860 in New Boston Illinois, he moved to Brighton in 1870 and was a retired railroad section foreman. Survived by five sons, 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, a brother, and a sister, he was a Christian and the body lies at Omar Hoskins funeral home with arrangements pending.

Rock Island authorities seek a man who used the name Warren Black to promote charity circuses for the Davenport Mothers’ Club and Rock Island VFW. He withdrew 700 from the Navy mothers fund and 900 from the VFW fund to pay bills and never returned.
