Nevinsville men cleared on construction damage charge

A district court dismissed a jury charge of injury to a building against eight Nevinsville men on a complaint by Charles Landon, a Nevinville produce dealer, after County Attorney B Stanley moved. Through counsel, the men pleaded guilty in a justice court to assembly and collect, were fined 40 dollars and costs, and paid 83.60 dollars costs in the first case.

Funeral Train Collision Near West Bend Kills Two

A collision between a northbound Rock Island train and a car headed to a funeral southeast of West Bend resulted in two deaths Mrs. H. M. Mantz 55 and Irvin Finders 27. Injured were George Faber 24 and Regina Bauman 50, none seriously hurt. The group were en route to the Faber farm home for funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Jaber.

Man Admits Slaying In Muscatine Garage

Ray Tracy a 41 year old Muscatine garage owner confessed to killing an unidentified man he employed as a janitor. The body was found in Tracy’s garage Monday night. Tracy said two bandits kidnapped him Monday and dumped him in Keokuk after a long drive. Edwin Tracy, 28, is held in Tipton on assault and robbery charges tied to a Tipton robbery three weeks earlier.
