Dr. John Hetner Chittum of Wapello named Iowa General Practitioner of 1954 at the Iowa Medical Society convention before about 1500 doctors. A Keokuk Medical College graduate, he practiced country medicine since the early 1900s, delivering babies in tents and homes, and later served as mayor and community leader while contributing to Red Cross and cancer society efforts.

Chicago jeweler Albert Horwitz, 56, denies taking part in a $12,000 Dubuque Iowa hotel room robbery. He was held after police recovered six of seven trays of rings from his office safe. The gems were stolen April 7 from an Leiber and Leiber Co. representative's room in New York. Horwitz said he bought the rings from a man called Young and sold one tray.
