Hartford police questioned 17 year old Donald KR Marsan about a bad check case. Asked to remove his sweater he peeled off 17 garments claiming the extra clothes made him resemble a prize fighter.
American carriers Valley Forge and Princeton of Task Force 77 hit Tanchon and Sopo targets in North Korea, burning supply buildings as fires spread. The strikes paused ground fighting due to rain and overcast conditions, with pilots reporting flames visible through smoke. Ground action was largely halted.
The American Farm Bureau urged Congress to cut federal roadbuilding costs in three proposals including repealing the 2 cent a gallon gas tax, halting federal aid increases, and stripping the public roads administration of rural minimum standards. Republicans and Democrats criticized the plan during a House subcommittee hearing as Secretary Weeks noted the issue as high policy with no administration position.
General Mark W. Clark proposes a psychological warfare experiment offering $100000 to any Soviet built MIG pilot who deserts to UN lines in Korea with a MIG-15. Beverly Thompson aged 21 died at Broadlawn General Hospital from burns after a fall into a bathtub under a hot water faucet at her Des Moines home last Wednesday. Authorities said an epileptic seizure caused the fall and her father Asa Thompson suffered burns pulling her from the water.
Esther M. Squire announces Harold Johnson has joined Washington County Hospital in mid February as a full time medical technologist. He will supervise the blood bank and other lab operations while donors and transfusions rise. Johnson, formerly at St Luke's Pasadena and a College of Medical Technology graduate, resides with his wife and eighteen month old daughter on Clara Barton street.
Tokyo dispatch says Chinese artillery smashed bunkers at Outpost Vegas on March 26 trapping Marines underground. Thomas Waddill testifies 41 men died in his bunker with six survivors. survivors describe gas, smoke, and chaotic rescue as Reds overran the position and evacuated wounded.

Henry Leffler died at 1 50 this morning at his Burlington home. Funeral services will be at 2 p m Thursday in Salem church Haskins with Prugh Funeral Home handling arrangements. Born July 20 1879 he farmed in Haskins most of life. Survived by two daughters Mrs Millard Younkin Omaha and Mrs Robert Casselman Chicago, son Richard Leffler Oakland seven grandchildren one great grandchild, one sister and one brother in Ainsworth, wife Marguerite Fisher Leffler preceded him in death July 1 1951.
The Navy Mothers Club of Davenport asked the County Attorney to probe the loss of $700 after promoter Black vanished with funds. He had promised a fund raising circus at Municipal Stadium and to manage ads and tickets but left town leaving no forwarding address. the club learned the stadium was unreserved and ads were not booked. President Audna Heald said the club would reserve comment pending developments.
Two hunters in Litchfield Connecticut challenged their $20 fines for illegal possession of deer. The appeal court judge increased fines to $50 each, prompting the appeal. In Yellowstone National Park Wyoming researchers report more geysers there than anywhere else in the world.

Iowa oat seeding neared 95 percent completion as the Weather Bureau reported. The northeast and southcentral counties were virtually finished, ahead of 1952 and the seasonal average, while cool weather slowed growth of early oats. Plowing for 1953 crops was two thirds done and about seven percent of clover and alfalfa seedings were lost to winter kill.

Lester Harland Raymond of Washington drove south on highway 218 about 500 feet north of the junction with highway 22 when one wheel ran off the road and the car overturned in a ditch. The sheriff's office reported the 1:30 PM crash caused heavy damage.
Norman Schoonover of Washington will assume ownership and active management of Lemmon’s Pharmacy on May 11, replacing J E Lemmon who served as druggist in the same location for over 50 years. Schoonover, a State University of Iowa trained pharmacist, will add veterinarian and prescription departments and retain similar hours with staff help from Mrs Boyd Crandall.

The Iowa Legislature approved a new state pension plan for public employees and reached a compromise on general school aid. A possible adjournment window remains uncertain as House Senate disputes could extend the session by a day or two. The school aid package would set general aid at 12 million dollars annually with at least an eight mill levy to qualify for state funds, after initial House approval of 13 million and Senate insistence on 12 million with a 10 mill levy. The overall state government appropriation totals about 10.045 million dollars yearly. A supplemental pension bill, tying to federal social security, was sent to the governor with a House-Senate disagreement over its mandatory versus optional nature.
Senate Republican Leader Taft signals a prolonged session to push the tidelands bill granting offshore lands to coastal states.
