Raymond Berry 26 landed in a tree in Middleboro Massachusetts after parachuting from a private plane. He told a surprised resident he intended only to drop by for a visit.
The Army accuses doctored photos of Secretary Stevens and David Schine shown at the hearings of fake evidence. McCarthy counsel Jenkins admits supplying the photo but disputes alteration details, while McCarthy denies involvement. testimony depicts tense exchanges on espionage probes and Stevens attempts to court Schine. The Oversize image dated November 7, 1958, at McGuire Field is cited.
Two Muscatine Iowa girls Clar Beeting 14 and Marietta Miller 15 were held by Chicago juvenile authorities. Gayle Houk 18 said the pair ran away from Muscatine on April 19 hitchhiked to Chicago and were taken to his home before police arrested them on a Loop street. Houk was held for questioning.
Dr. Rafael Ernesto Lopez 57 head surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital departed Caracas on April 15 with Venezuelan industrialist Gustavo Ramella Vegas on a hunting trip. Authorities found the wreckage but no trace of the occupants, and hope to locate them fades.
A wide area in southwest Tennessee reported a rumbling tremor Monday night. The U S Weather Bureau said the event appeared to be an earth tremor and the sound was heard as far as Covington thirty miles north of Memphis where residents felt the shaking. A Memphis resident described mistaking the noise for a passing train.
The American Legion Leon Beatty post and Auxiliary joined the First District conference at West Point on Monday. An all day session was followed by a banquet and guest speakers. State officers included Commander Robert H. Lounsberry and State Auxiliary president Mrs John Young.

Mrs Gladys M Sheetz Buch 45 of Keota died Monday April 26 at Washington county hospital after illness since 1953. Funeral at 9:30 am Thursday April 29 at St Peter and Paul church Clear Lake with Rev Paul Kleinfelder in charge. Burial in parish cemetery. Survived by husband Anton Buch daughter Judy and brothers Kenneth and Hubert Sheetz. Partners include parents and one sister predeceased.
Bank managers and officers report two masked gunmen robbed the Lakota branch of the Farmers Trust and Savings Bank of Buffalo Center late Monday, stealing several thousand dollars. A high speed chase ended when a shot damaged a patrol car. the duo fled in a green 1952 53 Chevrolet with Iowa license plates and vanished into the rural area near Forest City. Authorities say about 50 officers from multiple agencies hunted in north central Iowa and nearby Minnesota.

Nashville police investigated a nighttime vandalism incident in which W. G. Baker found both his cars sprayed with white blue and aluminum paint. He did not approve of the color schemes.
The Washington YWCA announces its annual membership tea at Mrs. R. H. McCleery home on Thursday April 29 from 2 to 5 PM. Members and prospects may sign or renew dues during the event, with hours staggered for serving. A Centennial Basket program will be discussed for summer or fall delivery.
Five governors from Colorado Texas Oklahoma New Mexico and Kansas urge immediate 15 million dollars to be added to the 195 million dollar agricultural conservation program. Norman Ek Burrell died Monday at 5 p m aged 87. He was born June 12 1866 in Washington and lived here all his life. Funeral services are set for 10:30 a m Wednesday at Jones funeral home with burial in Elm Grove cemetery. He was son of Howard A Burrell and Harriet Everson Burrell and related to publisher of the Washington County Press. Survivors include two sisters Mrs C M Keck Washington and Mrs Claude Terry Palo Alto California. A prominent pioneer family member and longtime local figure. Members of the event's membership committee listed Cloyce Stewart Mrs Wyllie Anderson Mrs Calvin Wolf Mrs Keith Vetter and Mrs G W Alliman.

Seven tornadoes were reported in Oklahoma and Iowa with three in Oklahoma and four in Iowa. Damage described as light with no casualties, though several sightings were unconfirmed. A tornado near Spencer Iowa damaged a barn at Arnold farm while other twisters touched near Rossie Cornell and Sioux City.
Communist troops opened a new attack from the south on the Isabella fortress guarding Dien Bien Phu. French airlift faced heavy fire as Corsair fighters joined the operation and pilot Paul Holden was wounded in anti air fire during supply drops. A narrow path bore the wind and rain, with a half inch of rain recorded by a Washington weather observer. hail damaged oats feedings in another county area. Henry Berdo reports heavy hail in fields seven miles northeast of Washington, with oat fields pounded for about five minutes and hailstones killing birds.
Iowa Attorney General Leo A. Hoegh, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, urged a 1 cent per gallon gas tax hike at a 4th District GOP meeting. He said funds would widen 4,000 miles of 18 foot pavement to 22 feet within six years and implement a pay as you go plan. He argued the $8 extra yearly tax per car would buy safer highways and improve sight distances.
