New York April 26 Colonel Robert G Ingersoll denounces Georgia lynchings as barbaric and un American. He cites vigilant mobs masked as justice and questions why US fiat is not law in Georgia. Clergymen a college president and a lawyer offer condemnation and calls for protection of citizens by lawful means.

Dr Jensen contracts with rival suitors in Minnesota divorce case

In Chicago a court heard Minnie Pinkston Jensen seek to set aside a divorce from Dr Paul C Jensen. She produced a postnuptial contract signed two days after their marriage by Jensen and Clifford S St John. The agreement paid Minnie $10 weekly and barred others from her life, with penalties for default. St John claimed no knowledge of Minnie’s marriage. Jensen offered no explanation.

Confession Tangles Family in Kansas Triple Murder Case

Young Henry Brunot, jailed at Taylorville, {confesses} implicating his mother Anna Brunot and her fiancé Frederick Sibley in the murder of his aunt Jane Brunot near Pana. He also admits buying arsenic and forging his father's name to obtain it. He claims his mother knew of the well burial and helped dig. A second warrant charges Mrs. Brunot as accessory. The case links to a three murders including the death of Mary McIntyre in Flatham mining district. Mrs. Brunot denies the charges.

Governor Tanner Demanded by Illinois Students in Effigy

Illinois students at the University of Illinois burned Governor Tanner in effigy in Champaign after word spread he struck about 100000 dollars from the university appropriation. A mob of several hundred marched to West Church street and hanged the effigy from a tree before police halted the scene.

Funeral Services For Governor Oglesby Planned At Home

Public funeral services for former Governor Richard J. Oglesby will be held at 2 PM Friday at his Springfield area home Oglesthurst near Elkhart. Bishop Seymour and Rev. Dr. Frederick W. Taylor will officiate with honorary pallbearers. Interment follows at St John the Baptist chapel Elkhart with guard of honor from Company H Fifth Infantry Illinois National Guard. Felicite Oglesby sails from Hamburg and returns May 5. Interment at Elkhart.

Bravery of Company K at Philippine river crossing

Company K of Twenty first Kansas under Captain Boltwood charged a cornfield to reach the river bank near a bridge where insurgents fired from a trench. Colonel Funston led volunteers including Ball, Ferguson and Barsfield to cross the river along girders while Company K fusilladed to divert fire. The small party reached the broken span under heavy Filipino fire.

Charlies Smith Knocked Out By Kid Miller In Moonlight Fight

In Anderson Indiana Charles Smith of New Orleans reputed south lightweight champion was knocked out in four rounds by Kid Miller Indiana lightweight. The bout occurred between the city and Monroe early Monday near the White River at Daleville. Miller scored a knockdown in round two and finished in round four. Police have not arrested the participants. The stake was a $200 purse and $300 gate.

Revenue agents seize counterfeits in Indiana and Pennsylvania

Richmond Indiana April 16 William Zacharias deputy revenue collector located and confiscated for the government 10000 cigars from the Jacobs factory at Lancaster Pennsylvania contained in boxes bearing counterfeit revenue stamps. Vincennes Indiana April 26 Internal Revenue Collector Lockwood found 350 cigars bearing spurious stamps in the hands of local dealers.

Italian Murderer Kills Family in Kanapolis Tragedy

An Italian man and his wife and a male boarder are involved in a deadly Kansas tragedy at Kanapolis. The boarder, an escaped murderer, is dead, the husband and boarder killed the wife while the wife is seriously wounded. The killer fled, plunged into a shaft at a salt works, his body torn apart and recovered in a sack. The coroner takes charge, Beloit, Wisconsin. The incident follows the suspect fleeing from Italy after murder and being located in Kanapolis.
