Illinois quota remains unsettled.
Washington April 26 The war department sent circulars to state governors detailing volunteer quotas and apportionment among infantry cavalry and batteries. States listed include Illinois Indiana Iowa Kansas Michigan Minnesota Missouri Ohio and Wisconsin with varied regiments and squadrons. John Logan Jr offers a cavalry regiment for government service.
Thousands line the streets as Captain D W Harvey orders Company D to Des Moines. The 5,000-strong crowd, including J G White Post veterans and Palma Band, bid a tearful farewell at the depot. The note praises the unit as one of the regiment’s oldest and strongest, with Major Glasgow and Commissary Wilson aboard for the journey.
