Washington residents can view a traveling exhibit of top Inland Daily Press Association photographs chosen from the Chicago contest. The display, in the library upstairs, covers spot news to human interest and is open daily during regular hours with no admission. The Inland travel exhibit is sponsored locally by the Washington Evening Journal.

Rites Monday for Thomas Lee Lankford
Funeral services for 75 year old Thomas Lee Lankford will be held Monday April 27 at 2 p.m. in Richland Christian Church with Rev. David Lehr officiating. Burial follows at Richland Friends Cemetery. Lankford born June 15 1888 in Paoli Indiana moved to Richland in 1911 and married Goldie Derby in 1912. He farmed until retirement in 1955 and is survived by his wife three sons five daughters twenty eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

Two car crash on Highway 92 near Washington
At about 5 a.m. a two car collision occurred four and a half miles east of Washington at the Rex Smith corner. Carla Zieslowsky of rural route two Washington, a State College of Iowa student in Cedar Falls, tried to turn left onto a grave road and was hit from behind by Burdett Miller of Brighton and Mrs. Ronald Derby of Washington and her baby. Miller, Mrs. Derby, and the infant were taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises. Zieslowsky was apparently uninjured.

Farm Home Burns at Columbus Jct
The Columbus Junction fire department was called to the Marion Crawford farm five miles northwest of the city late Friday night to control a fire that destroyed several buildings. They saved the house. The family woke to the blaze at about 11:30 p.m. A barn, a crib, the garage and a shed burned, with two calves, some hogs and feed lost. Losses not fully estimated.

Junior High Holds Student Election For 1964 65 Officers
An all school election at Washington Junior High held Thursday April 23 for the 1964 65 student council. Terry Allison won the presidency and Roberta Miller Miriam Jones and Mike Richart were elected vice president secretary and treasurer respectively. Other candidates included John Green Chris Vosika Pam Knaack Carol Koutson Joe Quinn and Donna Swift. About 43 parties are represented. 336 of 450 ballots were cast with the booth borrowed from the County Auditors Office.

Fire destroys Bethel farm home of Crandall family
The Crandall family lost their home and all belongings when a late night fire on their Bethel area farm northeast of Washington engulfed the two story house. Mr Crandall discovered the blaze around 11 PM while returning from the field and rescued his wife and daughter through an upstairs window. The farm and house are owned by Miss May Davis of Washington.

Max Shaum 65 Dies in Columbus Junction
Max Shaum aged 65 of Columbus Junction died Friday evening at Muscatine General Hospital after a period of illness. Funeral arrangements are handled by Stacy Funeral Home. He was born November 2, 1898, on a farm near Columbus Junction to Frank and Elizabeth Kinmonth Shaum and spent his life on local farms before moving to town.
