In Mulga Alabama forty one miners at the Birmingham Iron and Coal company mine are dead after a gas explosion. Rescue attempts failed as cages were wrecked and timbers blocked the shaft while flames shot 400 feet up the mine.
The United States geological survey ordered its mine rescue crew from the Knoxville station to the Mulga mine in a relief operation.
New York reports say W R Hearst considered a gubernatorial run but He insists he has no intention to run and calls anyone suggesting it a personal enemy. He emphasizes he will not announce a candidacy and remains certain about staying out of office.
Chicago April 22 Final figures in the Marshall Field estate inheritance tax case show a fair market value of 83 459 032 38 dollars. After deductions for debts claims and fees total 4 196 872 86 dollars leaving a net value of 79 262 658 52 dollars. Taxes on 5 960 000 in cash legacies have been paid.
Charles A. Revalee was moved to Michigan City prison after pleading guilty to the murder of Mrs. Frank Allison in Richmond Indiana.
