Pupils Exhibit At Lincoln Elementary School Night

Public invited to Lincoln Elementary School gymnasium Friday April 23 from 4 to 6 p m. Two hundred twenty five students will display work from fourth to sixth grades including sculpture painting drawing weaving ceramics and more. Sixth graders will also show work from the special interest reading program supervised by Mrs Griggs. Mrs Kessell's science students will present space program projects.

National Commander Herbert Rainwater said he will seek entry into Communist China to press for release of American prisoners in Southeast Asia. He plans a May trip via Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam to update on aid and deliver funds while urging improved U.S. policy toward North Vietnam.

Supreme Court upholds draft rules on conscientious objector claims

The Court ruled 6 to 3 that draftees cannot file CO claims after induction notice is mailed but before induction. William Ward Ehlert’s two year jail sentence for failing to submit to induction was upheld. Justices Douglas Brennan and Marshall dissented.

Fine Arts Festival at Washington High School

Washington High School hosts a two night fine arts festival directed by Carlton Bump with 65 to 70 students across art drama band and vocal programs. Demonstrations in pottery and printmaking invite spectator participation. A student directed one act play and concerts by mixed chorus concert choir and band follow with free admission.

Manpower survey study ends soon in Washington County

Ed Emerson Iowa Employment Security Commission area representative says the Washington County manpower study will conclude April 23. Results will be available through the Chamber of Commerce Washington Development Corporation and sponsoring groups within about ten days and the finished report within 90 days. Emerson hopes the study will be used to aid planned growth of the greater Washington County area.

Washington High Choir Announces Midwest Tour

The Washington High School concert choir of 70 members plans a Monday April 2 tour. They perform at the State Soldiers Home in Marshalltown before about 100 in person and 900 via PA system, then proceed to West Marshall High School at State Center, later visiting Ames Y. S. Stephens Auditorium on Iowa State University campus.

Area development meeting identifies fair Crane tax as top issue

About forty Washington men gathered for a four hour Iowa Southern Utilities sponsored session on area development. They ranked equitable Crane Company tax assessment first, with housing, jobs, streets, and water system high on the agenda.
