Des Moines Governor Clyde L. Herring named Tuesday May 12 Hospital Day to honor Florence Nightingale calling her one of the world’s most heroic women. He urged Iowans to study and pay tribute to hospitals and encouraged open house events on May 12.
John Dunning of Ottumwa a chemistry graduate student is practicing his flute to accompany Lily Pons as she sings The Little Wren during her Ames concert Wednesday. College officials chose the student to play the obbligato and cut the cost of bringing the soprano's regular flutist.
Emmetsburg report says Jay Noonan with help from Palo Alto county farmers regained possession of sealed corn left on a rented farm after eviction. Noonan, his wife and ten children were ousted when landlord Tom McDonnough secured a justice court order citing no lease and back rent.
Indiana Ind Dr Earl E Harper new president of Simpson college announced Prof Harold Fifield Lege has accepted appointment as professor of Bible and philosophy. Lege 55 years old has taught 11 years at an Indiana school and Keegan now teaches at Evansville College. President Harper left Evansville to take the Simpson job.
Cherokee tax collections through April 1 totaled 344 051 of 865 041 assessed. The figures were disclosed in a local government report, indicating the district is far along the calendar year’s levy collection.
