Neighbors Plow 75 Acres For Farms Near West Chester

Nine neighbors with tractors plowed 30 acres at the Marion Timmons farm on route 1 while he rebuilds a burned barn. Eight men plowed about 45 acres at the Edward Peiffer farm. Peiffer had just returned from eight days in hospital for blood poisoning.

Corn Allotments Remain Unchanged

Three Buildings Burn At Fredonia Thursday

A fire on the farm of Mrs. Madge O Neil near Columbus Junction destroyed a barn a large storage building and a corn crib with about 9000 dollars of sealed corn. Weath er driven fence row flames started the blaze. the farm house had burned years ago. George Black of Letts operates the farm. The loss from buildings was about 3500 dollars.

Washington County 4-H Names State Candidates and Camp Delegates

Washington County 4-H committees selected county candidates for state offices and delegates for state leadership and conservation camps. Janet Ross and Keith Hora were named as state office candidates, Judy Bell and Francis Gase chosen for conservation and leadership camps, with James McCreedy as conservation delegate. Committees planned next year’s programs stressing enrollment and parental participation.

Attend Final Rites For Alfred Miranda

Alfred A Miranda died Tuesday in Floris Iowa at age 78 after living in Davenport and Washington years ago. Funeral services were held Thursday in Eldon Iowa with Oscar Burham Grover Custer and family attending. Rev Robert Stevens of South Gate California will continue regular meetings at the Christian Tabernacle through next Friday evening. County Residents Discuss Possible Keota Wellman West Chester School District

A Wellman meeting drew 75 residents from Keota West Chester and Wellman to consider forming a common school district. Superintendent John Fields presided with no action taken. Neighbors Help Stephen Wolfer Farm Reach Plow Day

Friends and neighbors plowed 110 acres near Stephen Wolfer's farm five miles south of Washington before noon on Thursday. A 30 man, 27 tractor crew worked as a courtesy for Mr. Wolfer whose wife has been ill, with meals provided by local women and gasoline delivered by Forrest Brock to fuel the tractors.

Washington High School orientation day draws 122 freshmen

One hundred twenty two prospective freshmen attended an orientation day at Washington High School. Students from nearby junior high and rural schools learned about high school life through a student council led program featuring pledges, songs, and talks on fire drills, study hall rules, grades, lunch, activities, and freshman initiation. Tour guides then showed visitors through the building.

Rural Women's Day Set for Tuesday in Washington County

Rural Women's Day will be held Tuesday April 24 at 1 30 p m at United Presbyterian Church Washington. Exhibits from the year's work will be displayed. The Farm Bureau Women's chorus will sing and a cotton dress parade will be featured. Dr January of the State University of Iowa will summarize the county rehabilitation program for heart patients. Fred Radda Dies At His Home Here Today

Fred Radda aged 88 was found dead at 514 North Marion just after noon today. The body was taken to Jones Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are pending.

Zoning Board Elects Claude Woods Chairman

Claude Woods was named chair man of the city zoning board of adjustment at a morning meeting. He succeeds Ivan Norton who resigned as chairman after rotation rules required annual change. Norton remains on the board and thanked colleagues while continuing as a member under his council appointment.
