Local advertiser touts ham and eggs and suggests Islams mild smoked ham and Stoney-Cured Bacon. It proclaims lean bacon leaf lard and a wide selection of meats, pickles, jellies, and seafood with an invitation to visit.
Mr and Mrs Levi Nease of Sigourney traveled via the city last evening heading to Oregon and California for a vacation. The note mentions local ads and a murder trial at Oskaloosa for George Netterfield, with a timeline of about a week to ten days for disposition.
Mayor George F. Ross presided with all councilmen present except Dodds. About $200 in bills were approved. A road tax of two and a half mills was set. J Little’s city scavenger bond approved. The case of D R Munro versus J G Burham over cattle balance sparked neighborhood interest as Justice John Griffith presided. The jury reported Easter morning after eight hours without a verdict, agreeing to disagree. Bailey and Henderson appeared as counsel for plaintiff and defendant. A new trial is likely next week.
Central Station Des Moines Iowa reports continued cold weather with light rainfall and more sun and drying wind. Daily mean temperatures run 45 to 7 below normal. heaviest rainfall in northeast and east central districts. Since the 9th instant conditions improved for farming with progress in seeding across Wheat oats barley. central belt over half done though wet and undrained lands hinder pace. Southern belt advances, grass starting well. season about two weeks late in seeding and germination.

David Tatum, a Quaker evangelist from Denver, will lecture on temperance and the liquor traffic and display Dr. Sewall’s drawings at the First U P church next Wednesday night at 8:10 after prayer meeting.

It pledges one hundred dollars for any case caused by catarrh that cannot be cured, and notes product availability from I J Cheney Co in Toledo with Druggists selling Hall's Family Pills.

The Graham-Earle Co., one of the strongest touring companies, opens a week at The Graham in Ottumwa at the Grand Opera House on Monday evening April 26. Tickets range from 10 to 20 cents with seating on sale at Harvey & Warren’s. The company promises first class entertainment and a money back guarantee if not satisfied.
Monday evening at Miss Lucy Lindsay's home the Cui Bono Cooking Club hosted a small gathering. An original verse welcome sparked merriment followed by an Easter inspired spread and colorful egg shell decorations. Toasts music and readings rounded out the entertainment with White violets as favors. Attendees included Jas Redd D B Johnson L S Wallace Marietta Brown Mildred Wells Marriet Moore Frank Moore and Tall.
A mortgage totaling 750000 on all property of the Iowa Telephone Co is filed with County Recorder Park er. Illinois Trust and Savings Bank of Chicago will provide 850000 in bonds immediately to fund new line projects and finalize contemplated extensions.
Last evening in Waverly Iowa Scott Hyatt married Miss Tibbit. Hyatt has visited the city at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Marion O Laughlin. The couple arrived on the Rock Island this morning and will honeymoon at the O Laughlin home. Friends extend best wishes.
Senator J Palmer says the manufacturer bill may return to the house tomorrow with strong opposition to the senate substitute. He notes a slim chance it may not pass if the house does not concur and Morton receives a compliment this morning.
At Shea and crew start summer grading and inspection on the C R I and P Branch. Eighteen teams begin work in the overhead bridge on Crooked Creek three miles northwest of the city. J M King and crew of five teams join the force today.
Street Commissioner Miller and his crew began grading and smoothing Madison Street this morning. The work will ease burdens for teamsters who have faced a tedious period in recent weeks.
The Rock Island depot at Oskaloosa was broken into last night. The capon case was broken open and several tickets taken. Nothing else is reported missing. No clue is known to the robbery.
Ike E Stewart agent for Great Rock Island Route advertises round trip passes on April 26 and 27 for $1.86, less than half fare, available through the agency.
Big Husky Leighton formerly of Fairfield in the S BE Iowa League held Minneapolis to two hits in six innings on his Des Moines trial. Only three men reached first base, a performance that baseball fans will remember.
