Hammer to chair Memorial Day observance in Washington

First legal Iowa beer sale sparks slow start
Des Moines April 18. The first legal beer in 17 years was quaffed in Iowa but restricted to a few cities. State Treasurer Wegman began issuing application bonds to wholesalers at nine o clock. About 50 rushed to have bonds certified and filed. No brewer applied for a permit to manufacture beer. Over 900 permit applications had been received by nine, with more arriving hourly. Distribution not expected to spread statewide until Friday.

Mulock to Start Recruiting Forest Workers This Week
Iowa to enroll 6900 men for conservation camps this week. Br H Mulock, chair of the Iowa emergency relief committee, says the quota will be filled with jobless youths sent mainly to states with reforestation projects. He plans to begin enrollment in Des Moines as soon as Wednesday.

Takes Oath to Succeed Mayor Ross in Washington
