Des Moines April 18 Senator W G Haskell Cedar Rapids oldest serving Iowa senator died Sunday after sleeping sickness worsened by influenza contracted in January He was 66 and funeral services will be held in Cedar Rapids Known as Billy peacemaker of the senate he chaired the city and towns committee and held other posts His life began in Bradford Illinois and he built a coal business in Cedar Rapids also serving as postmaster and park commissioner He left four Cedar Rapids children Guy Willis Frances John Newman and was survived by his wife Mary Williams

The funeral of the late Charles Johnson was held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church. Dr W W Bowers conducted the service. Mrs Carl Hedges and Mrs Remps Hamp sher sang. The Odd Fellows and Rebe cas attended in a body. Pallbearers were L B LarÉ son, Axel Anderson, Frank Macon, M D Lee, Grover Custer and J W Davison. Interment was in Elm Grove cemetery.
