Red Cross Board Hears Reports At Local Meeting

Graber reported on Red Cross disaster work in Illinois and Michigan. The group praised Mennonite aid efforts and outlined disaster response, shelter, and food provisions. The board voted to continue the summer program and expand later. Joe Etzen outlined first aid class plans, and Mrs. J. Don Hazen reported $8,004.65 raised to date in the fund drive, with ten rural areas and four city solicitors yet to report. Mrs. Ralph Martin noted Gray Lady activities, including 2417 hours in Iowa City VA Hospital and 307 hours in County Hospital since July 1, 1955, plus 520 Gray Lady hours at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Recognition services in Iowa City honored local volunteers. The chapter set minimum yearly service hours for volunteers and approved similar ground rules for canteen workers. Production group led by Mrs. John H. Cherry showcased layettes for Ft. Crowder, Missouri, spiral socks for Hot Springs VA Hospital, and afghans for McKinney VA Hospital.
