Services to be held for Richard Killis Aged 9
Ames dedicates services today for Richard Allen Kilis nine son of Mr and Mrs John A Kilis who died in a sludge tank at the city disposal works near Quaw Creek. More than 100 people searched for him with police firemen club members and volunteers from a youth center aiding. An air compressed tool was used to bring the body to the surface. He was a third grade pupil at Whittier school and an only child.

Wellman Hound Wins Coon Trial in OtOittwa
Tanner a coon hound owned by Miller and Muddy of Wellman won the coon dog field trial on the Roser Griffith farm west of Ottumwa Sunday. Tanner earned 90 dollars in prizes while Weob, owned by Duggar and Pettit of Kewanee Sr., placed second amid bad weather and a large crowd. The event was hosted by the Wapello County Coon Hunters association which plans seven more hunts this summer with the next set for May 20.

Degrees to be conferred at eighty fifth university convocation

Deserter Kenneth Jennings Sent to State Reformatory
Kenneth Eugene Jennings was taken by Anamosa Sheriff H. M. Putnam to the state reformatory to serve up to one year for desertion of his family. He had beenparoled by Judge Frank Bechly last fall, but the parole was revoked after an arrest in Keokuk county on a forgery with bad checks, and he has since been released from Sigourney jail.

Supt. M. M. Schell reported most Washington teachers signed contracts to continue work next school year. Only a few vacancies remain, with several vacancies noted at Lincoln and Stewart schools. New wind break trees were approved for Stewart, funded by the PTA, and a coal contract for 500 tons was awarded to Rush Coal Office at 20.55 a ton, with deliveries this summer.

James L Morrison reported missing in action since February 16 while serving as a runner on a Flying Fortress with the AAF. The Morrison family of Grinnell previously lived here when Mr Morrison managed the Iowa Continental Telephone Washington office. Private Paul Benell released from a German prison camp brought relief to Mrs Benell and family after months of concern.
