Farmer Tony Betz reports two gypsy women entered his Primghar area home while he spoke with them and stole a wallet containing 350 dollars from his pocket. Their actions prompted a police report and investigation in the locality.
Burlington county jail workers finished installing saw resistant steel bars on ten cell windows making escape by cutting bars impossible. The new barriers cover all jail windows and strengthen secure confinement.
Jefferson county farmer George Gerrish died after his brother Charles backed a tractor over him on Highway 30. He died at a Car Roll hospital from injuries suffered in the accident.
Grinnell College student Phil Taylor reports a Veterans of Future Wars post will be formed among Grinnell students with a co-ed auxiliary. He says the national council authorized the Grinnell post and plans include a monument to fallen future wars' soldiers.
The Iowa liquor commission reports another 50 000 dollars sent to the State treasury in profits from State liquor stores, totaling 250 000 dollars since February 1 to help reduce the real estate tax levy. The panel expects about 100 000 dollars monthly.
Donald Becker, 11, was attacked by a sow in a pig pen while entering to pick up a small pig. The sow, in a distant part of the pen, rushed him as he reached for the pig, trampling and biting him before he could escape with injuries to his shoulder and arm.
Cedar Rapids report: Donald Aker, 20, despondent after wrecking his father's car, shot himself in the abdomen at his home. His condition is listed as critical.

Belgrade reports a violent incident as twelve Serbs were kidnapped and killed by Croats near the cathedral area. Nine youths were seized and executed in Zagreb along with an elderly man and two women. Clashes have escalated recently between Croat nationalists and Yugoslavs.

Iowa state board of education changes entrance requirements for two of the three state colleges. Algebra and plane geometry are removed as required subjects for students preparing for liberal arts paths.
Seven armed men halted an Erie railroad passenger train at Nutley New Jersey and escaped by car with 58000 in cash from the baggage car. Police from state and local forces pursued as alarms were sent to neighboring towns. The robbers overpowered a clerk in the baggage car while the eastbound local from Paterson to Jersey City halted at Nutley Station.
Early this afternoon the fire department was summoned to the Yeoman home at 725 South Avenue C where a fire was reported. It was extinguished before causing major damage though some furnishings were reported damaged.
