Mrs. Lee Etta Shenefelt Nevins died this morning at about 10 after burns while cleaning her yard. The 34 year old widow of John Nevins leaves six children and was born in Franklin county Ohio before moving to Iowa and then Washington.
Citizens report excitement as County Attorney Brookhart investigated a case involving an old man and his step-daughter amid local rumors of improper wooing. Fire damage to Mrs. Nevin’s home is blamed on possible spontaneous combustion, with clothing burned and a near disaster avoided by scent.

At the bride’s mother's home about fifty guests witnessed the marriage of Jennie Smith to John B. McCartney. Rev. Stark and Rev. Logue officiated under a smilaxy canopy as Miss Jessie Sage led the wedding march. The bride wore white satin with orange blossoms, and the couple departed amid a rice shower for their new home.
Will Glover a Washington cobbler for nearly forty years died last night at 9 30 from pneumonia. He was of Scotch descent and well read, enjoyed Burns poems and had knowledge of rare flowers. He lived with his mother who died years ago and helped organize the fire company in 1883. Funeral at Clark Sitlar residence Friday April 17 at 10 am.
A tramp visited Mrs. Ott in West Washington asking for work. After being fed a full dinner he offered to work for a meal but when asked what he would be paid he said he already got paid by the meal and left after noting the food.
Several new players are expected to join the band soon. The group will give their last concert in the opera house on May 1. If well patronized, free park concerts will start the following week. Remember Ll Trovatore with Anvil chorus at the next band concert Friday evening May 1.

Wm Wilson Jr Grand Receiver of the A O U W reports that last year the order handled 180000 through the Washington National Bank with 142000 paid to widows and orphans in Iowa. The order has about 52000 members nationwide and 10000 in Iowa. Annual lodge meeting set for Cedar Rapids May 12. Wilson has served as Grand Receiver for years and is favored for reappointment.
The chief will summon the fire company tonight to discuss arrangements to attend Will Glover's funeral as a group.

The Graham ends professional shows this season. a good show with a strong band and immense orchestra. A funeral for S. W. Hyatt's wife is set for tomorrow in Battle Creek Michigan.
Leopold Godowsky born in Wilna on February 18 1870 showed his talent at age three and began composing by seven. He debuted at nine and toured Poland and Germany before studying in Berlin and later Paris with Saint-Saëns. A breakthrough at the Trompette club earned praise from Saint-Saëns who embraced him on stage.
