In Des Moines thirteen year old Helen Weilman begs Municipal Judge Ralph Powers to parole her father Farl Wellman 38 from a 30 day sentence for intoxication after 15 days served. The judge says such a heartfelt plea is rare and could not be refused.
Granger, April 19 wedding for Lily Fiori 19 of the subsistence homestead family will take place at the Catholic Church of the Assumption. First homestead wedding since 43 families moved in last December to become running water pioneers under Professor Rexford Tutwell. The ceremony closes a bitter winter and begins spring planting and plowing.
Rome reports Italian forces captured Dessye without resistance, hoisting the tri color on the emperor Haile Selassie palace. The city lies 309 miles from the Eritrean border and 160 miles northeast of Addis Ababa, opening a road toward the Ethiopian capital. The official field statement calls the Ethiopian empire's days numbered.

Funeral services for Benjamin Franklin Miller, who died at the county hospital yesterday, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at Pleasant Hill Christian church southeast of town. The body, from Sherman’s funeral home, goes to the Miller home 489 East Van Buren Street this afternoon. friends may call there this evening or tomorrow forenoon.
Chicago April 15. Col Frank Knox leads Sen William Borah in the Illinois Republican presidential primary with 263,463 to 193,178 as 4,201 of 7,425 precincts report. Gov Henry Horner appears set to win the Democratic nomination for governor, leading Dr Herman Bundesen in downstate votes while trailing in Chicago.
Lincoln reports from half the precincts indicate Senator Borah ahead with 338074 votes in Nebraska. The ballot allowed write ins for Borah as no official challenger ran. Governor Alf Landon of Kansas shows about 7500 votes as a notable write in tally.
Nels Peterson aged 78, father of Mrs. Roger Sherman of Washington, died at Henry County Hospital Mt Pleasant after months of ill health. A pioneer of Olds, he farmed near town and worked in lumber and building materials. Survived by wife four children Wayne Olds Mrs Er B Lynch Ruth Waterloo and Mrs Sherman. One sister Emma Swatteon of South Dakota. Funeral arrangements incomplete with services likely at Olds and burial at Olds or Swedeburg. Arrangements by Shermans Funeral Home Washington.
The Montrose Iowa post office was robbed last night when the safe was blown open and $100 taken. Employees discovered the break this morning. An investigation is underway by local authorities.
