Des Moines reports complete exoneration of state insurance commissioner W. R. Kendrick. Legislative committee urges expanded power over fraternal companies and tighter laws, including stricter reserves, no dividends from contributed surplus, and approvals for consolidations.
Secretary of State Hughes former New York governor is to open the republican state convention in New York as temporary chairman The event includes a resolution endorsing President Coolidge and an expectation of delegates at large to the national convention consisting of two women and five men.
Mrs. C E Richardson received a message from Great Lakes naval station near Chicago stating her son Sam Richardson had been seriously injured in a motor cycle accident. Details are awaited as Mrs Richardson travels to the station.
Coolidge campaign managers claim 494 instructed or favorable delegates out of 556 needed, backed by Western organizer James W. Good. By month end 650+ pledged delegates expected. 28 states and territories have 644 of 1,109 delegates seated for Cleveland.
Albany April 15 Governor Alfred E. Smith received formal backing from Democratic colleagues at the state convention. Justice D. Cady Herrick, former supreme court justice, urged Smith as a presidential possibility and called for a party realignment to restore representative government and service.
