The March 7 1951 issue of the Washington Evening Journal was ruled non mailable by the federal post office solicitor in Washington DC. It promoted a sensational Easter Egg Hunt with numbers in papers and prizes in local stores, a setup deemed a postal lottery due to required purchase and effort to win. Postmaster Oral J Brown was asked to warn publishers. Chamber of Commerce Secretary Kenton Mangold said the lottery claim surprised officials.

HYANNIS Neb an area of about 250 square miles was swept yesterday and last night by a wind fed prairie fire that drew 500 men to fight it. The blaze was under control late last night and small fires remained in the under clay hay area today.
