Burglars Hit Two Washington Markets In One Night
Burglars struck the Jack and Jill Store on East Washington and the Hy-Vee Store on West Madison Friday night or early Saturday. They pried open the safes, stealing about 1500 dollars in cash and 3000 dollars in checks plus merchandise. Investigators from the State Bureau of Criminal Investigation worked with city police after employees discovered the thefts. Police urged customers who wrote checks to pay them or stop payment, as the large number of checks were stolen from the Jack and Jill store. It is unclear if the two burglaries are linked, but investigators noted the possibility.
