Invitations announce the marriage of Schuyler W. Livingston of Centerville and Alice Isabelle Samson on the 22d at the bride's parents home on South Town street. The couple are active in local social life and the ceremony is billed as a major social event.
A letter from John S. Emery, president of the Beet Sugar Industry, asks county residents to submit contracts for at least an acre and a half as a trial. Tests suggest soil could yield twenty tons per acre, offering better returns than corn or small grain. Des Moines reports cold, cloudy days, light precipitation, delayed seeding, and modest soil improvement, with potatoes planted in the south and fruit buds generally healthy. Alba Heywood Company staged a small but well received performance. Heywood praised as top impersonator.
A Clarence Iowa reader reports a daytime airship landing in a cattleyard at eight o clock. Ten occupants including three women and seven men spoke an unknown language and gestured toward the moon. The craft measures about thirty feet, and the writeup notes odd features and the notion they have traveled through their planet atmosphere. The letter ends with local notes on social visits births and miscel environs.
Special to The Eventua Journal. Forecast calls for generally fair weather in Iowa with cooler air in the east tonight and warmth on Wednesday. Local items include teachers facing new certification exams in algebra and physics, health updates, property construction, pension news, school term starts, and community notices from Washington County and neighboring towns.
Prof and Mrs Matthews hosted the Academy seniors and faculty on the Heights for a pleasant social evening. The class played games such as carrom, target, ring toss, and halma. refreshments were served, marking one of the best social times of their school days.
Ar Wallace donated a handsomely bound Webster's Un abridged Dictionary to the Wallace school in East Washington as a token of appreciation for the honor he received, naming the school in his tribute.
A county official received a letter from a resident criticizing an ex-occupant for outdated county matters. The Journal suggests the resident subscribe to keep informed.
The cafe owner Willie Daniels locked the doors this morning as business languished. He hopes to reopen in a few weeks with a larger, grander establishment when better weather returns, noting the prior venue was well regarded and will be missed.
Lewis Wallace received word this morning of his mother Mrs Mary Wallace passing at her Freeport home. She was 85 years old.
A wedding is planned in Ainsworth tomorrow with Mr. Atcheson and Miss Effie Van Horne to exchange vows at four o'clock in the evening. A small circle of city acquaintances will attend. Mrs. Jerry Curran is reported improved.
Promotion of Hall's Catarrh Cure claims to cure deafness caused by inflammation of the Eustachian tube. The ad asserts nine out of ten deafness cases stem from catarrh and offers a hundred-dollar reward for noncured cases. It urges sending for circulars from I J Cheney & Co Toledo and notes Hall's Family Pills as best by druggists.
