Marines Begin Unloading Eight Inch Guns in Da Nang
UPI reports U S Marines started unloading heavy artillery at Da Nang docks including eight inch howitzers, part of a buildup of the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade. A battalion of Marines is due to arrive, while air strikes and Viet Cong activity continue in South Viet Nam.

Two Die in Washington County Highway Crash
Two people were killed and two injured in a collision on highway one nine miles north of Washington Saturday night. The dead are David Powers and Vera Powers of Iowa City formerly of Washington. The injured are G E Mace and his wife of Washington in fair condition at Washington County Hospital. Funeral services for the Powerses will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shermar Eden Funeral Home with burial in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Council Bluffs youth killed and another injured by a freight train near Honey Creek. two teen girls Susan Jarvis 16 of Fairfax and Jane Novak 16 of Cedar Rapids in a head on collision. elderly couple David Powers 64 and Vera Powers 61 die in a north of Washington crash. Glenn Mace 70 and wife Helen 70 survive. Kenneth Wookey 21 Beverly Bruce 26 and son Larry 7 killed near Red Oak. five others die in earlier accidents and multiple injuries reported across the state.

Mrs Elma Jane Romoser aged 80 of Keota dies suddenly at her rural Keota home Sunday morning. Funeral services Tuesday at 2 pm at Powell Funeral Home Keota with Rev Ortin Potter officiating. Burial in Keota cemetery. She was born Sept 13 1884 in Keota, married Theodore Romoser in 1906, he died in 1982. Survived by two sons Marlin and John, four grandchildren, and sister Mrs Lark Teets. She was a Methodist and a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Farm House Destroyed By Fire On George Tripp Farm
A vacant tenant house on the George Tripp farm south of Washington burned Saturday afternoon. High winds and a mud road hampered fire crews as Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. truck access was difficult. Maynard Brown, Washington fire chief, said a workman found the fire in the north wall of the unoccupied structure, and it spread rapidly before firefighters could reach it.

The Bethel Presbyterian church northeast of Washington suffered wind damage that blew out the chimney and damaged the roof of the kitchen and a Sunday school room. Bricks crashed through the roof into the kitchen and others rolled off, injuring the sexton near the east steps after Sunday services ended.
