Keota School District reschedules a two year 2 percent levy vote to April 24 as a courtesy to unregistered voters. The measure would raise about $80 000 to fund industrial arts facility expansion at the high school and maintenance at other district schools.
Clifton G. Harp Jr. of Washington receives a maximum 10 year prison sentence at the Men’s Reformatory in Anamosa for larceny. Judge Cahill runs the term concurrently with a prior five year sentence after revoking probation. Other defendants in the Washington break in ring see various outcomes as charges against several are dropped.
The Burlington Hawk Eye was named Iowa Press Association Newspaper of the Year at a noon luncheon in Des Moines. The Ames Daily Tribune and Cherokee Daily Times placed second and third in the daily division. The Hawk Eye earned top honors in sports and women News while its publisher John McCormally won editorial and master columnist prizes.
The Iowa House unanimously approved a revision to adoption laws allowing infants under 30 days to be placed in foster homes while their natural parents’ rights are terminated and before adoption. A prior proposal to place infants in adoptive homes before termination was defeated twice.
